AI trends in 2022
Industry and market experts, CIOs, and even PR agencies have all given a variety of opinions about how AI applications are performing in different industries. As per a poll by Toolbox, about 42% of tech professionals say that Artificial intelligence will be the biggest overall technology trend for 2022 [1].
However, after taking everything into consideration, one question has always existed among the masses – is the AI hype valid enough? Has it managed to fulfill most of the expectations, especially for businesses? If yes, then what are the success milestones for AI implementation?
This blog looks at some of the key AI trends in 2022 that were forecasted the year before, and if they are living up to their expectations or not. It provides insights into how AI as a holistic technology has performed recently.
No-code AI
No code AI trend was forecasted to garner a lot of attention in 2022, and until now it appears to have lived up to its expectations. Low-code and no-code automation are defined as an approach to automating daily business operations through cloud-based SaaS (Software as a Service) products with minimal or no need for code writing. This trend allows businesses to create, configure, and train customized AI solutions without writing a single line of code.
Many enterprises have already begun leveraging features of no-code AI such as out-of-the-box functionality, drag-and-drop functionality, and reusability of independent AI modules in 2022. In addition, no-code AI provides several benefits of not only costs and time savings, but also offering easy-to-use customizations and accelerating business operations.
No-code AI has made Artificial Intelligence more accessible to businesses, thus forming one of the strongest AI trends in 2022. Thus, anyone with a working knowledge of process automation is now able to use AI and create their own solutions, thus removing the requirement of having additional skillsets.
We are already looking at the positive effects of this trend in terms of key forecasts. For example, studies claim that low code/no-code solutions have the potential to reduce the development time of AI solutions by up to 90% [2]. As per Google trends, the interest in no-code AI has increased and will become steadier with improved maturity and flexibility of solutions, and improved adoption along with smoother integration.
Augmented workforce
Artificial Intelligence was first introduced to businesses with the intention of developing a collaborative approach with humans. However, many held a misconception that this technology will bring innovation and process efficiency without the need for humans.
Despite this misconception, fact remains that AI as relatively advanced technology has a considerable scope of working along with humans. This scope further led to the trend of an augmented workforce, which is predicted to grow considerably in 2022.
The trend of an augmented workforce has been helpful in terms of dispelling any fears of AI and machines taking over or replacing humans at work. Certain complex processes might need a human to take a higher judgment call and for overall supervision based on the performance and results.
The trend of the augmented workforce is indeed catching up gradually in the business environment, and this is evident with the changes it has caused in operational processes that involve the need for both AI and humans to work side-by-side. About 26% of consumers say they interact with Artificial Intelligence on a daily basis. Taking this figure into consideration, it is certain that we will see more of a human-augmented approach in 2022 [3].
Next-gen document processing and digital transformation
Natural Language Processing (NLP), a technology that helps effective communication and language interpretation between humans and machines, was forecasted to be one of the strongest AI trends in 2022.
And this trend has certainly lived up to its expectations, with AI solutions integrating NLP technology combined with other technology such as OCR for accurate and faster document processing for unstructured data or free-text.
Artificial Intelligence also showed some promise in the trend of ushering in digital transformation across multiple verticals of operations. Some of the different verticals where AI has performed well with regard to this trend are the customer-facing departments, CRM handling, and product development to name a few.
Inference
There were several AI trends in 2022 that industry experts had shortlisted earlier, and the ones listed above have shown maximum implementation during the first half of this year. In terms of becoming mainstream in the business environment, the trends of no-code AI and AI-based document processing have already penetrated to a considerable extent in different industries.
There are a few challenges that hamper the growth of the other AI trends in 2022 such as unavailability of quality data, lacking modern infrastructure, lack of desired skills, and so on. However, through smart planning, the right kind of AI solutions, and quality data for AI training, by the year’s end, we could see a marked difference between the current and forecasted positions of AI trends.
